Young people contribute to training

Daybreak is a recognised training agency for family group conferences. It can provide training in the following areas:

  • An Introduction to Family Group Conferences- one day workshop. This is suitable for anyone who is interested in FGCs: who may refer, present information at a meeting, or who is considering training as a coordinator
  • FGC Coordinator Training - 3 days intensive skills based training which will give participants the knowledge and skills to accept a first referral with support
  • Workshop for managers of those who refer - to consider the support, supervisory and agency implication of referrals
  • Workshop for referrers - a one day skills based workshop. This is to give participants the knowledge of their role in the process, and the skills to participate
  • FGCs and domestic violence - a one day workshop which considers the issues that need to be considered when domestic violence is the central focus of the referral, or an issue in a child welfare referral

Daybreak has produced an extensive Coordinator Practice Guide, which gives guidelines for coordinators on setting up an FGC, from start to finish. This costs £50 (10% reduction for voluntary organisations).

The name 'Daybreak' is translated from the Maori word 'Puao-te-ata-tu'. This was the title of the report from which the concept of family group conferences first began.
